Have you seen these? Mob Psycho 100, The Promised Neverland, Mashle: Magic and Muscles

In the ever-evolving world of anime, keeping up with the latest trends and releases can feel like an exciting journey of discovery. With animes passing more and more even into the big streaming services (like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+) they’ve totally made it to mainstream. From captivating storylines and stunning animation to memorable characters and thought-provoking themes - the anime landscape offers something for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to social media, as well, these days there are a lot of super popular ones.
To name a few:

  • Attack on Titan (2013)

  • Chainsaw Man (2022)

  • Demon Slayer (2019)

  • Hunter x Hunter (2011)

  • Death Note (2006)

  • Jujutsu Kaisen (2022)

  • Akame ga Kill! (2014)

  • Sword Art Online (2012)

  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009)

  • One Punch Man (2015)

  • Tokyo Ghoul (2014)

And there are many, many more. These are animes I really enjoyed watching. If there is one or another of them that you don’t know yet, you should give it a try, too. :)

Looking Beyond the Obvious Hits

While the most popular anime series often receive loads of attention for their high production values, compelling storylines and memorable characters, there are many reasons why exploring animes that are not the obvious classics can be equally fulfilling. And we’ll do so in this blog post.

Well, I’m not claiming to tell you secrets now. ^^ The three animes we’re about to dive deeper into are also well-known. I just think, they’re not the absolut first ones to have in mind, when thinking about the most popular animes, like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer. Anyways, in my opinion, these three animes are top notch, as well, and you should definitely watch them. These are Mob Psycho 100 (2016), The Promised Neverland (2019) and Mashle: Magic and Muscles (2023). Ahhhh, I really love those three so much!!<333 So today, let’s take a closer at them.

Mob Psycho 100 - A Story About Power

"Mob Psycho 100" is a story about Shigeo Kageyama (referred to as "Mob”), a seemingly ordinary middle school student with extraordinary psychic abilities. He struggles to navigate the complexities of adolescence while suppressing his immense psychic powers, fighting supernatural threats, including evil spirits and other psychics. Mob struggles with his identity and purpose, and he discovers that true strength comes not from his extraordinary powers, but from his compassion, empathy and resilience. I really enjoyed the anime’s unique blend of action, humor and heartfelt storytelling.

The Promised Neverland - Survival and Betrayal

Don’t let yourself get fooled by the cute drawing style and the storyline surrounding children living in some kind of an orphanage. This anime is absolutely thrilling! With its twists, “The Promised Neverland” kept me on the edge of my seat due to all the relentless tension and suspense. Behind the seemingly perfect walls of the children’s home (called Grace Field House) lies a horrifying truth. That’s why a group of children around Emma, the strategic mind of one of their own, tries to escape from it. I love the way the anime rolls out all the mysteries waiting ahead: The kids navigate the dangers of their world and uncover its dark secrets. They are confronted with their fears and fight for survival in this thrilling tale of suspense and betrayal.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles - It’s All About Cream Puffs

Well, nothing to add to this headline, haha. xD No, but seriously, this anime centers around Mash Burnedead, a young man born without the ability to use magic in a world where it's everything - and who lives for his cream puffs. Despite being born without the ability to use magic, Mash possesses immense, unparalleled physical strength. To prove his worth in a society where magic is considered supreme, Mash enrolls in a Magic Academy, where he faces challenges, protects friends and uncovers his mysterious past. The anime’s refreshing take on the typical magic-centric anime genre adds a unique twist to the story. I just really loved this underdog story and the unconventional protagonists. I highly recommend you watching it! :) (Additional: There are so many easter eggs where they’re stealing from other animes, movies and series in general - it’s crazy hilarious! ^^)

Don’t Sleep on These Must-Sees

I think, today's animes are really representing a golden age of creativity, innovation and diversity in storytelling. And the three mentioned above definitely add to this. With a wide range of complex themes, stunning visuals, unusual characters and clever storylines, these animes can captivate their viewers and push the boundaries of artistic expression. They are thrilling and can bring a good laugh (well, not The Promised Neverland, there was nothing to laugh about x’D). Maybe you're a longtime fan or you’re new to the world of anime, but if you don’t now these three masterpieces yet, then really go ahead, watch them and fall in love with these must-sees yourself. :)
