Located along the picturesque coast of central Vietnam lies the vibrant city Đà Nẵng, a destination that surprises visitors with its unexpected resemblance to Korea. From its bustling streets and modern skyline to culinary delights and cultural influences, Đà Nẵng offers a unique fusion of Vietnamese charm and Korean vibes. I wasn’t aware of such similarities waiting for me, when I visited this sunny holiday destination. Of course, I was captivated immediately by the combination of both cultures. ^^ So let’s take a look into the different reasons why Đà Nẵng feels so much like Korea.

1. The Surge of Korean Tourism

In recent years, Đà Nẵng has experienced a growth in Korean tourism, leading to the rise of Korean-themed attractions, restaurants and neighborhoods throughout the city. From Korean-style shopping malls and entertainment complexes (like Korean karaoke, 노래방) to Korean-owned businesses (like the K-Market) and certain communities, the presence of Korean influence is everywhere, creating a special Korean atmosphere that surrounds the city.

2. Fusion Cuisine

One of the most notable aspects of Đà Nẵng's connection to Korea is the diverse culinary scene, which features an appealing selection of Korean-inspired dishes and fusion cuisine. You can find Korean barbecue restaurants and cozy cafés, as well as street food stalls which serve Korean classics like Tteokbokki and Gimbap. Believe me, there’re so many opportunities to indulge in the flavors of Korea while at the same time exploring the streets of Đà Nẵng.

3. Vibrant City Districts

Đà Nẵng is home to vibrant neighborhoods and cultural hubs that reflect the Korean influence, too. Many streets are bustling with Korean-owned shops, restaurants, and businesses, offering a taste of Korean culture amidst the lively streets of Vietnam. Meanwhile, cultural attractions provide opportunities for visitors to learn more about Korean traditions, language, and arts.

4. Modern Infrastructure

Đà Nẵng's modern infrastructure and urban development projects have striking similarities to those found in Korea, with skyscrapers, well-planned neighborhoods, and state-of-the-art facilities dotting the cityscape. Clean streets, efficient public transportation system and innovative urban planning initiatives reflect a commitment to progress and development that are similar to Korean cities like Seoul and Busan.

5. Natural Beauty

Despite its urbanization, Đà Nẵng has managed to preserve its natural beauty and coastal charm, offering a serene backdrop for those seeking relaxation and tranquility. The city's beautiful beaches, lush mountains, and scenic riverfronts (here is a Hàn River, too, just like Seoul’s Han River (한강)^^) provide opportunities for outdoor activities, comparable with the coastal landscapes found in regions of Korea such as Jeju Island.

A Fusion of Cultures

In conclusion, Đà Nẵng's resemblance to Korea is more than just a coincidence - it's a testament to the city's unique blend of cultures, influences, and experiences. Đà Nẵng offers a captivating fusion of Vietnamese warmth and Korean vibrancy that enchants visitors from near and far. For tourists like me, who are a fan of Korea and Vietnam alike, this city offers a unique combination of both worlds. You can imagine, I’ve been to Korean-style cafés or supermarkets like K-Market many times, haha.^^ Combining Vietnamese coffee with Korean snacks was the best thing ever. I’ll definitely come back to Đà Nẵng. <3

(Districts like Phước Mỹ and Mỹ An are especially filled with Korean shops and restaurants.)
