Hands of Gods: The Golden Bridge

golden bridge with famous hands between clouds in ba na hills, da nang, vietnam

Been to the famous Golden Bridge in Bà Nà Hills, Đà Nẵng, Vietnam

Address: Thôn An Sơn, Hòa Vang, Da Nang, Vietnam

High above the lush greenery of Đà Nẵng’s Bà Nà Hills, an architectural sensation awaits - the Golden Bridge. Known locally as “Cầu Vàng,” this stunning pedestrian bridge has become one of Vietnam's most iconic attractions since its unveiling in 2018. With its unique design and breathtaking views (if you’re not standing in between clouds, haha^^), the Golden Bridge offers an unforgettable experience for tourists. It’s really extremely popular; especially during holiday season this bridge is gonna be packed. Still though, you should add this extraordinary destination to your Vietnam travel itinerary - and here is why. :)

A Marvel of Modern Architecture

The Hands of the Gods

What sets the Golden Bridge apart is its unique design: Two massive stone hands seemingly emerge from the mountainside, gently cradling the golden walkway. These hands, designed to appear weathered and ancient, create the illusion of an ancient relic, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. It was breathtaking to see it with my own eyes. <3 Walking across the bridge felt a little like stepping into a mythical world; when I was there, clouds and fog were drifting around, underlining that feeling. But don’t worry, the weather is shifting quickly up there, so that the sky can brighten up eventually.

Architectural Triumph

Stretching 150 meters long and 1.400 meters above sea level, the Golden Bridge offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and lush forests, once the sky clears up. The bridge’s golden balustrades and nice pathways add a touch of elegance, making it THE perfect photo spot. It’s impressive, how the bridges structure harmonizes with the environment while offering a very special twist. It just has something magical.

Breathtaking Scenery

Panoramic Views

As you walk along the Golden Bridge, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of Bà Nà Hills and the verdant valleys below - again, depending on the weather. ^^ And don’t be fooled by the weather conditions down in Đà Nẵng: I started off in the city with very warm, beautiful summer weather, but heading up to Bà Nà Hills, the weather changed completely and it got quite chilly due to the high altitude. Nevertheless, it was absolutely worth it and the weather changed a couple of times while being up there. On moments of clear sky, one could see all the way to the coast of Đà Nẵng, with the South China Sea shimmering in the distance. The combination of fresh mountain air and stunning landscapes makes it a serene and really beautiful atmosphere.

Nature's Beauty

The area surrounding the Golden Bridge is rich with flora and fauna. The bridge itself is lined with beautiful flowers, adding a splash of color against the golden railings. The cool mountain climate supports a variety of plant species, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers, as well.

The Appeal of Bà Nà Hills

A Historical Retreat

Besides the Golden Bridge itself, Bà Nà Hills has a long history as a retreat destination. Originally established by French colonists, it was developed as a hill station to escape the heat of Đà Nẵng. Today, it has transformed into a modern resort complex while retaining its historical charm. The French village within the complex, with its cobblestone streets and European architecture, offers a nostalgic journey back in time. It’s quite authentic and really cute. :)

Thrilling Attractions

Beyond the Golden Bridge, Bà Nà Hills offers a wealth of attractions. There is for example the Bà Nà Hills Cable Car, one of the longest and highest in the world, providing a thrilling ride with spectacular views. And the Sun World Bà Nà Hills amusement park features rides, playgrounds and entertainment for visitors of all ages. Also, don’t miss the Linh Ứng Pagoda, home to a huuuuuge statue of the Buddha, which adds a spiritual dimension to your visit and is nothing but astonishing to view so up close.

Cultural Experiences

Bà Nà Hills also hosts various cultural shows and performances that highlight Vietnamese traditions and folklore. From dance performances to acrobatic shows - there’s always something to entertain and educate visitors about the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

Practical Tips for Visiting

Best Time to Visit

I’d say, probably the best time to visit the Golden Bridge and Bà Nà Hills is from March to September, when the weather is generally warm. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the most pleasant temperatures and the best lighting for photography. Avoiding weekends and holidays can also help you escape the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful experience. I believe, that school holidays during the summertime start around June (at least, that’s what we were told when visiting in May), so try so avoid those and it’ll be less packed.

Getting There

Bà Nà Hills is located about 35 kilometers from Đà Nẵng. You can reach the area by taxi (we took a “Grab”, which is kind of a taxi but via an app and the most common way to get from one point to another in the cities - highly recommend, super convenient and a very safe option for tourists), private car, or a guided tour. Once you arrive, the Bà Nà Hills Cable Car will take you up to the resort complex. Let me tell you, the journey itself is part of the adventure, offering breathtaking views as you ascend. :)

To Have a Great Visit:

  • Dress Appropriately: The weather in Bà Nà Hills can be cooler than in the city, so bring a light jacket or sweater.

  • Comfortable Footwear: There’s a lot to explore, so wear comfortable shoes for walking.

  • Plan Ahead: To make the most of your visit, plan your itinerary in advance. Include time to explore the French Village, the amusement park and the various gardens and temples. I recommend you get a so-called “WOW-Pass” to save up time, which is kind of a priority ticket (don’t remember the price, but was a totally reasonable one).

  • Stay Hydrated: Please bring some water, especially so if you’re visiting during the hotter months.

Step into Myth

The Golden Bridge in Bà Nà Hills is more than just a tourist attraction: It’s a symbol of the blend between human creativity and the natural world. With its awe-inspiring design and breathtaking views, it offers an experience that is both visually and spiritually uplifting. Whether you’re a photographer, a nature lover, or a traveler seeking new adventures - the Golden Bridge is a must-visit destination in Vietnam. So, if you’re planning a trip to this beautiful country, make sure to step into the hands of the gods and discover the myth of the Golden Bridge. You won’t be disappointed! :)
